How to Pass NYSC PPA Screening for a Tech Company in 2025 (and What to Expect)
A practical guide for corps members seeking NYSC tech PPA placements — what skills to demonstrate, how to approach the screening process, and what good tech companies look for.
The NYSC Tech PPA Opportunity
Getting posted to a genuine tech company for your NYSC Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) is one of the best career accelerators available to Nigerian graduates in 2025. A good tech PPA gives you real production experience, a portfolio of work, potential job offers, and sometimes even a higher allowance or welfare package from the company.
The challenge: competition is fierce, and most corps members don't know how to differentiate themselves.
What Tech Companies Are Actually Looking For
After screening hundreds of corps members at Neobot Tech over the past 3 years, here's what actually matters:
1. Demonstrate Real Skills, Not Just Certificates
We've received CVs listing "Python, JavaScript, React, Flutter, Machine Learning, Data Science, SQL, PHP, Laravel..." — all listed as proficiencies. During technical screening, many of these candidates cannot write a basic loop or explain what an API is.
What we want: Depth over breadth. Show us one area where you're genuinely competent.
2. Have a GitHub Profile with Active Commits
A GitHub profile with actual commits — even simple projects — signals that you write real code. A corp member who can show us 3 months of Git history with readable commits stands out immediately from 90% of applicants.
Quick setup if you don't have one:
# Build something small but complete
# Example: A simple REST API with Node.js + Express
mkdir my-api && cd my-api
npm init -y
npm install express
# Write 50–100 lines of working code
# Push to GitHub with meaningful commit messages
git add .
git commit -m "feat: add user registration endpoint with validation"
git push origin main
3. Show Initiative in Your Application
The difference between a good application and a forgettable one:
❌ Average: "I am a computer science graduate from [University] and I am interested in working with your company for my NYSC service year."
✅ Strong: "I've been following Neobot Tech's blog and noticed your case study on the hospital management system. I'm particularly interested in the PostgreSQL optimization you mentioned — I've been building a similar inventory system for my final year project and I'd love to contribute to real production systems during my service year. My GitHub: [link]. My portfolio: [link]."
4. Technical Screening at Neobot Tech
Our screening for corps members includes:
Round 1 (via email/WhatsApp): Submit a GitHub link + short description of your strongest skill
Round 2 (30-minute technical call): Live coding or walkthrough of a project you built
Round 3 (in-person or video): Meet with the team you'd be working with
We don't use whiteboard algorithms. We evaluate practical ability.
